The happy faces peeking out from these quilts are the “From the Heart Quilters” from the Corvias Military Living at Fort Riley, Kansas. We recently finished seven small quilts for Quilts for Kids. It was a labor of love and brought seven coworkers, and now friends, together for the purpose of giving back.
I discovered Quilts for Kids many years ago after a friend received a quilt. I learned firsthand the true comfort this organization provides. Quilts for Kids is a charitable organization that provides these beautiful quilts to children with life-threatening illnesses or children of abuse. This organization sends the quilts to hospitals to provide comfort to a child.
A core value of Corvias Group is giving back and our group was inspired by a desire and ability to use our talents to help others in need. And, of course, I thought the most fun way to support this organization was through sewing!
Our small quilt guild included advanced and beginner quilters as well as one fantastic ironer. We each paid for a quilt kit from Quilts for Kids which includes all fabric precut and ready to sew. We brought our sewing machines, thread and purchased the batting used to fill the quilts. We gathered over our lunch hours in the hopes of completing the quilts in a month. For several of us, it was our first time completing a quilt on our own. This milestone was not success enough for us, however, as we completed the quilts in only 2 weeks!
There was lots of laughter, sharing, teamwork and encouragement that went on while we sewed. We truly put as much love as possible into each quilt, hoping it will carry over to the child that receives it.
We had such a great time sewing these quilts and are already planning another session of quilts later in the year.
I personally would like to take a moment to share how proud I am to work with such amazing women and celebrate their selfless accomplishment. They gave their time freely without expectations. I am honored and blessed to been a part of this project and Company that inspires us to give in so many ways.
